Root & Yard may use advertising and commercial partnerships to help fund the publication while keeping editorial decisions separate from advertiser influence.
This policy explains how advertising, sponsored material and other paid relationships may be handled on rootandyard.com.
Our core advertising principles
Clear separation
Advertising should be distinguishable from independent editorial content.
Editorial independence
Payment does not buy a favourable review, ranking, conclusion or recommendation.
Reader transparency
Material commercial relationships should be disclosed in a way readers can reasonably understand.
Display advertising
Root & Yard may display advertising supplied directly or through third-party advertising platforms, including services such as Google AdSense if and when they are introduced.
Display advertisements may appear in areas such as article pages, sidebars, headers, footers or other designated advertising placements. Where appropriate, advertising may be identified with labels such as “Advertisement”, “Advertising” or similar wording.
Advertisement — A clearly identified commercial placement should not be presented as though it were part of an independent Root & Yard recommendation.
Advertising does not determine our editorial conclusions
Advertisers do not receive the right to dictate the conclusions of independent Root & Yard articles merely because they advertise on the website.
Our editorial team may discuss, compare, criticise or decline to recommend products or companies that advertise on Root & Yard. Likewise, purchasing advertising does not guarantee:
- Editorial coverage.
- A backlink or search-engine benefit.
- A positive review or recommendation.
- A particular position in a comparison or buying guide.
- Removal or alteration of legitimate editorial criticism.
More information about how content is researched and prepared is available in our Editorial Policy.
Sponsored content and commercial partnerships
Root & Yard may consider sponsored articles, sponsored placements or other commercial collaborations in the future. When content is materially influenced by or created as part of a paid commercial arrangement, we aim to identify that relationship clearly.
Labels may include wording such as “Sponsored”, “Paid Partnership”, “Advertisement” or another description appropriate to the arrangement.
A payment is not editorial independence. Sponsored content is different from an independent editorial article. We aim to make that distinction visible rather than allowing paid material to imitate independent coverage without disclosure.
Product samples and review units
If Root & Yard receives a free product, temporary review unit, event access or another material benefit relevant to editorial coverage, we may disclose that relationship where it could reasonably affect a reader’s understanding of the content.
Receiving a product does not guarantee publication or positive coverage. Where possible, editorial conclusions should reflect the product’s actual strengths, weaknesses, limitations and suitability for the intended reader.
Affiliate links are different from display advertising
Some commercial links may be affiliate links rather than advertisements. With affiliate marketing, Root & Yard may receive a commission if a reader follows a tracked link and completes a qualifying transaction.
Our approach to these links is explained separately in the Affiliate Disclosure.
Ad selection and third-party advertising platforms
When third-party advertising technology is used, individual advertisements may be selected, delivered or measured by the advertising provider rather than manually chosen by Root & Yard.
Although we may use available controls to restrict unsuitable advertising categories or placements, we cannot guarantee that every automatically served advertisement will reflect Root & Yard’s editorial views or constitute our endorsement of the advertiser.
Advertising, cookies and privacy
Advertising providers may use cookies, identifiers or similar technologies for purposes such as ad delivery, frequency control, measurement and, where permitted, personalisation.
For more information about these technologies and how information may be handled, see our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Advertising standards
We reserve the right to reject, remove or discontinue advertising or commercial relationships that we consider inappropriate for the publication, misleading, unlawful, unsafe, deceptive or materially inconsistent with the interests of our audience.
Acceptance of an advertisement does not mean Root & Yard independently verifies or guarantees every claim made by an advertiser. Advertisers remain responsible for the accuracy and legality of their advertising and for their products, services and customer obligations.
Current and future monetisation
Root & Yard is being developed as an independent publication and its monetisation methods may evolve. References in this policy to advertising platforms, sponsorships or other commercial arrangements describe how those relationships may be handled when used; they do not mean every form of monetisation described here is currently active.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Advertising Policy when Root & Yard introduces new advertising partners, monetisation formats or disclosure practices, or when relevant legal, platform or industry requirements change.
