Affiliate Disclosure

Root & Yard believes readers should be able to tell when a link may financially support the publication.

This page explains how affiliate links may be used on rootandyard.com and how commercial relationships are kept separate from our editorial judgement.

The short version

Some links on Root & Yard may be affiliate links. If you follow one of those links and make a qualifying purchase, Root & Yard may earn a commission. This normally does not increase the price you pay.

What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a tracked link supplied by a retailer, marketplace or affiliate network. It can allow that provider to recognise that a visitor reached its website through Root & Yard.

If the visitor completes an eligible purchase or another qualifying action, the provider may pay Root & Yard a commission or referral fee under the terms of its affiliate programme.

Our approach to affiliate content

01

Reader first

A commercial opportunity should not determine whether we describe a product as suitable, unsuitable or poor value.

02

Clear disclosure

Where affiliate links are used, we aim to make their commercial nature reasonably clear to readers.

03

No guaranteed praise

Participation in an affiliate programme does not guarantee positive coverage, ranking or recommendation.

Does an affiliate commission affect the price?

Normally, using an affiliate link does not add an extra charge to the reader’s purchase. The commission is paid by the retailer, marketplace or affiliate network according to its own programme terms.

Prices, promotions, availability, shipping costs and programme conditions can change. Always confirm the final price and purchase terms on the retailer’s website before ordering.

How recommendations are made

Our editorial goal is to recommend or discuss products based on their relevance to the reader’s question, available evidence, specifications, practical use cases, limitations and value — not simply on whether a commission is available.

  • Affiliate availability does not automatically make a product a recommendation.
  • A product may be discussed even when no affiliate relationship exists.
  • We may identify disadvantages or recommend against a product that has an affiliate programme.
  • Where practical, comparisons should explain meaningful trade-offs rather than simply favour the most expensive option.

Future affiliate programmes

Root & Yard may join retailer or affiliate programmes as the publication grows. This page does not claim that Root & Yard currently participates in every programme, retailer or marketplace that may be mentioned in our articles.

Programme-specific disclosures: If Root & Yard joins an affiliate programme that requires particular disclosure wording or additional information, we may display that disclosure on relevant pages and update this policy accordingly.

Sponsored content is different

An affiliate link is not necessarily the same as sponsored content. With affiliate marketing, compensation generally depends on a qualifying action after a reader follows a tracked link. Sponsored content involves a separate commercial arrangement and should be identified accordingly when published.

Our broader approach to commercial content and editorial independence is described in the Editorial Policy and, where applicable, our Advertising Policy.

Third-party retailers and services

When you follow an affiliate link, you leave Root & Yard and interact with a third-party website. Purchases, payments, delivery, returns, warranties, customer service and privacy practices are governed by the relevant retailer or service provider.

Root & Yard does not process the retailer’s checkout transaction and does not control changes to third-party prices, stock or policies.

Cookies and tracking

Affiliate networks and retailers may use cookies or similar technologies to attribute referrals and qualifying transactions. More information about cookies and third-party technologies is available in our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.

Changes to this disclosure

We may update this Affiliate Disclosure when Root & Yard joins or leaves affiliate programmes, changes its monetisation practices, or when relevant programme, platform or legal requirements change.
